PFAS SamplePrep seminar Tuesday 18 November 2025

PFAS: a problem and an opportunity for the laboratory

There is no getting around it: PFAS is recognised worldwide as a major environmental problem.

However, this also presents an opportunity for laboratories — an opportunity to contribute to mapping PFAS in soil, water and food and thus play a valuable role in protecting the environment and public health.

Determining PFAS is challenging: extremely low concentrations, high risk of contamination and a need for reliable, reproducible results.

A good analysis starts with good sample preparation — without that foundation, even the best analysis method loses its value.

Why attend this seminar

Do you spend too much time on PFAS (soil) extraction and repeat the same manual steps every day?

Then this seminar is for you.

Discover a fully automated PFAS extraction workflow with the ePrep® ONE and Advion-Interchim SPE-LV6.

During this seminar, we will show you how to:

  • minimise manual operations
  • significantly increase the throughput of your analyses
  • and still achieve low quantification limits (e.g. 0.02 µg/kg for soil).

And in the afternoon, you can experience the technologies for yourself during practical hands-on demonstrations of the ePrep® ONE, SPE systems and additional sample prep tools.

This will allow you to see in practice how automation works — from extraction to clean-up — and what this can mean for your own workflow.

In short: in just one day, you will discover how you can make your PFAS sample preparation faster, cleaner and more reliable with modern, integrated solutions.

Our contribution

Instrument Solutions is organising this day together with experts from Advion Interchim, ePrep Europe and Salm en Kipp.

We are pooling our knowledge to demonstrate how SPE and µSPE can be efficiently combined into a complete and automated workflow – from extraction to analysis.

In addition, cryogenic grinding and microwave sample preparation will be briefly explained as complementary techniques for optimally preparing samples for PFAS determination.

Introduction Katanax® X-100 Fusion Fluxer

We introduce the Katanax® X-100 from Environmental Express, an advanced yet accessible electric fusion fluxer designed specifically for modern laboratories with lower sample capacity.

Electric Fusion Fluxer for XRF and ICP Analysis

The X-100 is a perfect entry-level model in the Katanax range and complements the existing 3-position (X-300) and 6-position (X-600) models. This means that there is now a suitable solution for every type of laboratory.

The X-100 features innovative, individually replaceable heating elements that are resistant to chemical attack and do not become brittle. This makes the fluxer robust, easy to maintain, and durable. The warm-up time is less than 15 minutes, and thanks to the PID temperature control and unique flux-calibrated temperature calibration, stable operation is guaranteed.

The device operates on both 115V and 230V (single connection) without external power supplies or coolants, and has an intuitive interface with preset, customizable fusion methods. Via CPLive™ networking capabilities, the X-100 can also be easily integrated into digital workflows.

The Katanax® X-100: the compact solution within a powerful and complete fusion range.

Instrument Solutions at the LABNL 2025 exhibition

From September 23 to 25, 2025, the LABNL laboratory exhibition will be held at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. During these days, the latest technologies, solutions, and tools for the laboratory will be presented.

LabNL Escape Room

On Wednesday, September 24, there will be a real Escape Room at LabNL. In the Biosecurity Escape Room, teams of up to six players will compete to be the first to unravel the biosecurity mystery. Participants will be confronted with a realistic laboratory scenario and will have to work together to contain a potential threat. Can you communicate effectively, apply the right safety measures, and use your analytical skills to find the right solution within the time limit? More information.

Would you like to experience what LABNL has to offer for yourself? Then head to Hall 10, where you can meet Instrument Solutions and its sister company SALM & KIPP. The stand number is 10C006. Don’t miss this opportunity to expand your knowledge and network!

What can you expect at our booth?

SPEX SamplePrep: from SPEX® to Cole-Parmer®

The SPEX SamplePrep brand name, whose best-known products include the 2010 Geno/Grinder and Freezer/Mill, no longer exists.

SPEX® was purchased by Cole Parmer, part of Antylia Scientific, in 2019. Until now, SPEX has continued to exist as the brand name for the products we represent. However, that has now changed; Cole Parmer has now consolidated the various brands they purchased into one world-class brand. The idea behind it is that they want to provide one brand experience of significance.

Besides a cosmetic change to the products, this brand change does not affect the product features you are used to from SPEX.

What does change are the type numbers of the various products:
